Mr. Chandler

Jazz Ensemble

Bob Chandler is the Director of Bands at Franklin Road Academy in Nashville, Tennessee, where he has taught for twenty-one of his twenty-eight teaching years, serving as Fine Arts Department Chair for ten years. Prior to FRA, Mr. Chandler was Co-Director of Bands at Father Ryan High School in Nashville, Tennessee.  Mr. Chandler has been named a Tennessee Governor’s School for the Arts Outstanding Teacher, and in 2004, he received FRA’s William L. Campbell Award for Excellence in Teaching. In 2013, Bob proudly served as the conductor of the MTSBOA All-Mid-State Junior High Jazz Band and has been a clinician for All-County honor bands. Bob has been a member of MTSBOA for 28 years. Bob has served as high school representative on the MTSBOA Executive Board and as the TMEA Tennessee All-State Jazz Band Chair. In 2016, Bob completed the Jazz@Lincoln Center Director’s Academy, under the direction of Wynton Marsalis and the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra musicians.
 

As a saxophonist, Mr. Chandler has performed with the Broadway Revival of Gypsy, starring Tyne Daily, The Four Tops, and the Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus. He has also performed with The Platters, Sam Moore, and Sawyer Brown, among others.  As a composer, he has composed music for the Chattanooga Ballet production of A Streetcar Named Desire. 


Mr. Chandler’s professional affiliations include National Association for Music Education, Tennessee Music Education Association, Middle Tennessee School Band and Orchestra Association, ASCAP, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.  Mr. Chandler holds a Bachelor of Music degree from Middle Tennessee State University and has graduate coursework at both the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and Middle Tennessee State University.
