Frank Zimmerer, Ed. D serves as Director of Bands at Antioch High School in Nashville, TN. At Antioch, Dr. Zimmerer conducts and oversees the operation of the three concert ensembles, the beginning band, marching band, pep bands, and jazz band. At Antioch, the bands continuously receive superior ratings at concert and marching contests, as well as the 2018, 2023, and 2025 ASBDA Award of Distinction for Concert Performance and Sightreading. He has served as the AHS New Teacher Mentor Program Coordinator, Fine Arts Department Lead, and was named Antioch's Teacher of the Year in 2020-2021. Dr. Zimmerer is a 4-Time recipient of the CMA Teacher of Excellence Award (2016, 2019, 2022, 2023). In 2021, he was awarded the Blue Ribbon Teacher Award for Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools.

Before Antioch, Zimmerer was the Director of Bands at East Nashville Magnet High School. While at East, he re-established the high school marching band, tripled the overall band program in size, opened a new band room facility, and regularly performed in marching and concert band festivals. He also served as an interim director of the East Middle School band program (5th-8th grade bands) in addition to his work at the High School. 

Originally from Atlanta, Georgia, he attended the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, where he majored in Music Education (saxophone emphasis) and Studio Music/Jazz Performance (piano emphasis). He graduated from UTK summa cum laude and was named an Outstanding Graduate from the School of Music. In 2024, he was named a “Volunteer 40 under 40” by the university. Zimmerer earned his master's degree from Florida State University, where he attended on a full graduate teaching assistantship in jazz studies and taught courses in big band, small jazz combo,
jazz piano techniques, and studio jazz piano. He served as a staff member for the FSU Summer Music Camps as a jazz band director and clinician. Zimmerer earned both his Educational Specialist degree in Administration and Leadership and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville, Tennessee.

Zimmerer maintains an active performing schedule as a jazz pianist and clinician throughout the Southeast. Highlights have included engagements at Dizzy's Club Coca-Cola in New York City, Joan Rivers Live, and masterclass performances with artists such as Branford Marsalis, Christian McBride, Warren Wolf, Gregory Tardy, and Marcus Roberts. He regularly clinics and conducts local and regional honor jazz groups, presents PD on teaching in Title I and High EL populated schools, and is the director of the MNPS Middle School Summer Band Camp.

Dr. Zimmerer holds professional memberships in Phi Beta Mu, ASBDA, TNMEA, Middle Tennessee School Band and Orchestra Association (MTSBOA), TBA, NBA, Pi Kappa Lambda, JEN, and NAfME. He served as Tennessee State Jazz Chair for four years and has served as a member of the TNMEA Equity in Music committee since its inception. He and his wife, Jen, a full-time private clarinet teacher, live in Nashville, Tennessee. Both serve as the Head Directors of the Stars and Stripes Tour with American Music Abroad for band, choir, and orchestra students from across the Southeast.
