Auditions for the Ethos Children's Choir are designed to be fun, inviting, and not at all scary!  Auditions exist to place students in a choir according to their vocal development, ability to focus, and emotional maturity.  Students should be entering grades 3 through 8 for the Fall in which they want to enter an Ethos choir. In subsequent years with the Ethos Children's Choirs, students may be promoted to other choirs as their skills, vocal maturity and social maturity increase.  While the Preparatory Choir and Apprentice Choir are the only ensembles offered in 2024-2025, we plan to offer other graded ensembles in the future.

Neither prior choral experience nor the ability to read music is necessary to audition, and students do not need to prepare an audition song.  During the audition, an Ethos Children's Choir conductor will lead a small group of children to sing—both as a group and individually—vocal exploration exercises and familiar songs which we will review, such as “Happy Birthday.” The audition is not a stressful situation, and parents are invited to sit in the back of the room and observe if they wish.  The directors watch and listen for beauty of tone, evidence of musical aptitude, and demonstration of the child’s ability to focus, follow directions, and work in a group setting.

The audition itself will only take about 5 minutes per group, but families will need to plan your afternoon around the full schedule above (meeting, rehearsal, audition window) as audition groups will be chosen randomly.  The auditions will be videorecorded (this helps the Directors refer back to the auditions later), but that video will never be shared/posted and only seen by Directors.

Auditions are held at Stewarts Creek High School.  Please enter through the North (gymnasium) entrance, then follow the signs immediately inside to the choir room.
